Yeah, they figure if you flash your drive with diferent firmware than you are probably stealing games too so they just ban everyone with unapproved read speeds. And true, ps3 does let you use your own drive. there is a way to use your own drive with 360 too and its easy but of course you have to set it up on your own and its not just plug and play like PS3nondisclosed_email@example.com (spiderLAW)Sat, 23 May 2009 16:31:03 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5591,from=rss#post5591https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5591,from=rss#post55911tb drives are going for under a hundred. I think the 80gb drives for Xbox (possibly PS3 also) are still like 150... Ridiculous. But seriously, is that the main issue? I mean, what the frack difference does it make what model hard drive you have? You're still playing over the same network, which is still connecting to M$'s servers which they have more or less absolute control over. Geez... Its because its not just modded to read backups its also modded for slower load times. I have the samsung dvd drive in my box set to read discs at 16x and they can see that. The last 2 are a pain. I also cleared all the normal w/Ken and Gouken. As for the rest of the characters I have 3 done for the majority of them in Normal. (I haven't gotta Sagat's fake kick either... pressed the freakin' button for like a half hour!) The problem w/the cancel trials isn't your timing, it's what they don't tell you... In a cancel trial you almost always have to dash forward and then do the next step. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Artsta)Mon, 18 May 2009 16:18:45 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5567,from=rss#post5567https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5567,from=rss#post5567So Ryu is so hot everybody wants the shirtless costume? How far have you gotten in the trials? I can't get past the third trial on most characters (the cancel trials). The timing is screwed up. I can do many of the movies perfectly, but as soon as I do it when he actually hits Dan, the timing changes And I still don't get the mechanics of some of the moves (like Sagat's fake kick. You have to be almost unhumanly fast to hit it), and Akuma's Raging Demon. I noticed some differences in the versions, also. That air spin kick you like to do a lot, can't do that like that in the PS3 version (you launch forward doing it, in the PS3 version, doing it in the air halts your forward momentum). I also can't do anything requiring more than 3 moves (just the way my brain works, I can't keep that fourth move in memory), and I know some of the hardest trials have 5+ moves! Of course, I agree with the popular argument that many of them are moot because nobody tries them in an actual fight (much less online) (not to mention counters).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Autonymous Rex)Mon, 18 May 2009 14:52:02 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5562,from=rss#post5562https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5562,from=rss#post5562Heh here's a G2 Tournament from last night, w/Ryu of course. Since we kept playing random, I got a couple of characters I never used before (like C. Viper and Rufus), and I didn't do too badly with some of them. I think I have a short thumb, because I have so much trouble doing some moves (and most moves consistently. I see great openings for certain moves, and wind up pulling a medium punch at best). I switched the low punch/kick like you did, Jon, but didn't realize those are the throw buttons I'll have to set it up like you did (w/o the taunt, because I'm not good enough to taunt, and if I am, I have the wireless headpiece, so I can do my own ) That's cool dude, here's a tip for unlocking the charcters quickly. Set the game mode to "easiest" and "1 round". Except for Gouken, Akuma, and Seth, you'll be able to unlock everyone in no time. And yeah I rarely taunt either, only if my opponent taunts me. Certain moves have shortcuts in SFIV, like Ryu's Shoryuken and Zangief's Piledriver. The nice thing is these are common motions used for other players moves and work on them as well. Ryu's shoryuken shortcut motion also works to perform Ken's, Sagat's uppercut, and also works to perform Cammy's "Cannon Spike" and other various named moves w/the same motion for characters... (This also works to perform Sagats Tiger Knee, Fei Longs Flaming Kick, Ryu's Hurricane Kick ect in reverse order). For more info on this look at this link: http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/may/04/shortcut-motions-shoryukens-dragon-punches-street-fighter-4/ I'm not sure if you're a Zangief Player, but same applies for his 360 motion moves, you don't have to do the whole thing. That one's a lil' hard to explain though. It's like this: Which is much easier to perform. I also learned this works to perform Cammy's Hooligan Throw as well. Hope this helps man.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Artsta)Thu, 14 May 2009 15:33:05 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5502,from=rss#post5502https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5502,from=rss#post5502Ha! They were askin' everyone over on the Capcom boards what their controller and button layout is, this is how I have mine: I've played on the Madcatz SF pad too, it's not bad. Thing I didn't like about it is it's so light there's no real weight to it, and w/a 360 controller there's rumble support. If you're hardcore man, get a stick. Also, the cross pad on the PS controller is not really that SF-friendly (since they are directional buttons rather than an actual cross pad). I'm not trying to lose, but read what the other player will do. Lets do it man! You got a 360, get one of those 1 month subscription card's for like $10 and let's tear it up! Judging by what you said about the Ultra's you bought it for PS3 though huh...? As for Ultra's, they pretty much go through everything on 360. A hadouken will stop Akuma's Raging Demon, M. Bison's Psycho Crusher or whatever it's called, Balrogs Ultra, and Fei Longs Ultra. Gen's downward kick didn't stop it I don't think because it was a wake-up Ultra, had he performed the move after I performed the Ultra I think it would of. My plan was to time it so he'd be coming down and couldn't block it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Artsta)Sat, 09 May 2009 07:48:52 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5379,from=rss#post5379https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5379,from=rss#post5379the physics of the game must differ from the 2 systems. when some one does kens ultra and i shot a haduken at them it stops him from continuing the ultra combo unlike what was shown in ur video. Are you referring to a focus attack? Thats the only move I can think of where he appears to be wide open and you can go kick him but nothing will happen. This is avoidable, if you've got pretty quick fingers get in while they're doing it and rapidly tap low punch or low kick, this will break him out of his focus attack (any 2-3 hit combo will actually). The only other two options to stopping this is dash forward and throw him, or perform your super/ultra while he's doing it. As for the throws, it was tricky for me at first too. I was literally pissed... No matter what I'd do i'd ALWAYS get thrown. The easiest way to counter throw spammers is input a throw at the same exact time you think it's about to happen to you. This way you're either gonna throw them, or they'll just cancel each other out. The 2nd way is the same way I was explaining the Sagat focus attack stopper, If you think they're gonna throw you crouch and bust out the low punch/low kick and rapidly hit them buttons! It will push them back where they can't throw you if they're trying. Keep in mind there's a few ways you'll get thrown that's simply unavoidable. If you do a special move in the air (like the hurricane kick) and miss your opponent you're wide open for a unblockable throw. If you perfrom a Super/Ultra and miss, yet land right next to your opponent you don't have enough time to recover, you're wide open for a throw. And lastly, as mentioned in the Sagat stopping technique, if you're performing a focus attack you're wide open for a throw (Most ppl never consider this one though). nondisclosed_email@example.com (Artsta)Fri, 08 May 2009 02:52:17 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5316,from=rss#post5316https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5316,from=rss#post5316Have you seen the cheap Sagat combo being used now? It's basically tiger shot flurry (ie the "Ryu fireballer technique"), but instead of the tiger punch when you jump over (or slide under) them, it's that counter move (where Sagat kind of circles his arms, there's one of those graphic "ink splashes", a little blue flash and his powerful counter attack, but he's totally invulnerable while doing it, even though stance wise, he's wide open (so you instinctively move in to attack and do no damage, and then he nails you). Also, any good tips to avoid the "throw monkeys"? I get caught by throws a lot (both CPU and human players! I don't get it. I can activate a throw when they're wide open and I'm right up there, and nothing. Yet they seem to be able to literally pull me out of a move while I'm even HITTING THEM! and throw me! I always had this problem in Street fighter though, so it's not really anything new. I can't figure out what I do wrong vs. what they're doing differently...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Autonymous Rex)Thu, 07 May 2009 10:41:28 +0000 Re: Street Fighter IV Gameplay (Me throwin' down...)https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5315,from=rss#post5315https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p5315,from=rss#post5315So since I'm basically a SFIV addict, I decided to start a SFIV Blog over at the official Capcom-Unity site. Not that I'm that good at it, but SF is one of those games I've always faired better against other people than the CPU. I prefer to use Ryu/Ken, but mainly because their moves are predictable (as in, when you hit a punch button, you know they're going to throw a punch. Most of the other characters throw some weird moves, especially Blanka). But I hate using them against other people because they're so "obvious". When I first got the game, I played some casual matches. I even had the first icon and title because I hadn't earned anything else. I didn't know most of the characters and was just playing for fun, and STILL had some guy insist on picking his Ryu and pulling his typical B.S. (at least a couple of other people picked random characters too, I mean, it's just for fun!) Do the rankings cross over with the PSN rankings? Or is it separate? I wish they'd get cross platform already.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Autonymous Rex)Tue, 05 May 2009 10:02:51 +0000
