As far as I know, ONLY the Joe Kubert school specifically teaches sequential art.

Well... you might be able to learn something similar at a school that focuses on films (storyboarding), but sequential storytelling isn't really a standard curriculum at most art classes, AFAIK.

Now I know that you're on the hunt for schools, but what exactly are you wanting to do/learn?

 :nice:

For the most part, comic artists take fine art classes in a normal (non-specific) school. Comics are just the specific application of techniques you learn in normal art schools emoticon

Your portfolio for ANY art school (even Kubert, which is the most comic-centric school you'll find), should include a variety of pieces. They want to see scenery (like drawing a street scene while sitting at an outdoor restaurant). People, landscapes, animals, maybe even gesture studies. IOW, even the comic centric schools do *not* want to see much in the way of comic book art. Comics is not a style. It's just a specific application of art techniques. These same techniques can be used in many other art industry jobs. What they want to see is if you're capable of drawing whatever the situation calls for.

Yes, draw more from real life. Remember: there are rules you need to learn and follow before you can warp them and bend them. Drawing just from imagination doesn't show a grasp of these rules. Walk before you run emoticon

Hey SHO, Like Rex says, you need to draw from life. I have to say that I learned first hand that you learning to draw the basics is essential to you growing into a better artist. Now, it really doesn't matter what school you attend but obviously quality does count so looking for a school with good instructors is key. Once you have learned the basics and then further develop your sense of design, layouts, composition and other aspects then you can utilize what you learn to create what you want. I have learned so much from school and will continue to but the one thing that you have to remember and do is Draw Draw and Draw!!!! Draw from life as much as you can and draw from observation as well. If you have any other questions about this feel free to ask me either here or IM or email. Hope you find what you're looking for and when you do, leave nothing on the table :nice:
