I HATE coloring my own work! I end up ruining a bunch of my pencils and inks! LOL!nondisclosed_email@example.com (jenchuan)Sun, 03 Jul 2011 15:49:37 +0000 Re: Basic coloring- intimidated beginnerhttps://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10422,from=rss#post10422https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10422,from=rss#post10422I'd suggest hulk over spider-man. Use a more "open" character. Not only does it allow you to practice forming shapes via color, but in someone like spidey, with all those inner lines, if the ink bleeds, it's going to screw up your efforts. For the record, I prefer dark to light for all marker brands. Especially copics. Prismacolors, most people prefer light to dark (Nar is the only artist I've seen who effectively does dark to light with them). Part of the reason is the lack of a cohesive color system. HOWEVER! The Prismacolor color chart gives you a good idea of how the shades progress (making blending easier). I still have over a hundred prismacolors, and like to use them, but I generally don't use them for sketch card gigs or commissions because blending them can be iffy. But they are great learning markers, and still great if you're doing a more cel shaded style. For ideas, I suggest looking up prismacolor marker videos on youtube.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Autonymous Rex)Sat, 25 Jun 2011 13:46:53 +0000 Re: Basic coloring- intimidated beginnerhttps://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10419,from=rss#post10419https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10419,from=rss#post10419Thanks Nar. As always, a big help. And yeah, that's exactly how I feel. Thanks again man. I'll try that.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TaooftheRaven)Sat, 25 Jun 2011 10:48:12 +0000 Re: Basic coloring- intimidated beginnerhttps://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10415,from=rss#post10415https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10415,from=rss#post10415Try using your prisma markers on a separate sheet of paper. Color in simple shapes like squares, cicrles, etc. Learn how to blend with them. For prismacolor markers, you gotta start with the darks first and work your way up to lighter tons as you rub the tips over each tone to create a perfect blend. Work as quick as you can too. Its harder to blend when the tone has dried and set on the paper. Once you're comfortable with that, draw a crappy quick inked sketch of any character like spider-man, or Hulk even. Something with simple colors. And try your hand at coloring those first. From dark green to lighter greens, etc. Always think 3D shapes when coloring muscles. Start simple. I know how you feel about coloring. I'm the same. I hate coloring my work. Every time I get to that point where I have to color a drawing, I get very intimidated. Its not like coloring in Photoshop where the original art can be saved and stored in case you goof up the colors. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nar Comics)Fri, 24 Jun 2011 14:09:48 +0000 Basic coloring- intimidated beginnerhttps://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10406,from=rss#post10406https://b1narcomicunderworld.runboard.com/p10406,from=rss#post10406Ok so I've pretty much been a pencil artist, almost exclusively. I wanna venture more into coloring but I'm not really sure where to start n am a lil intimidated. Any suggestions? I have pencils and some really nice Prismacolor markers, but I think I keep psyching myself out of using them. I think it's cus I don't wanna mess up my work. However I'm determined to push myself further and at least try. Any tips or advice will be appreciated.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TaooftheRaven)Thu, 23 Jun 2011 00:33:24 +0000
