Super Nintendo games are EXPENSIVE!

I am so glad I never got rid of my library of SNES video games. I just went on ebay to search a few games and found that they were freaking expensive!!! At least the ones I wanted.

First reaction was "WHY?". Some were up on 1 to 2k in bids.
I researched it and it seems SNES games are all the jazz in today's video game collectors market.
And it seems it's only going up further and further as the years go by.
There are some games I may never be able to own in cartridge form, which I personally like over simple downloads on the Wii.

Isn't it crazy?! Bananas I tell you!! Now I'm searching on ebay for every game I own just to see where their value is. lol

Some games I wish to own some day are:

Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Doom Troopers
Super Contra
Megaman X2
Yoshi's Island
Earthworm Jim
Flashback
Mario RPG

All of which are stupid expensive. Unless I get lucky with an auction..which I doubt as every one of these titles seem to generate a lot of bids during their final days in the listing.

...just thought I'd share. emoticon

Emulators.

Most of the SNES games are... I forget the term. Not public domain, but basically "fair game", so with emulators and roms being free, the original carts are definitely collectors items. I think I only have a few of mine left. The Super Mario game that came with the SNES, Killer Instinct, and Super Godzilla. Not sure if I have any others. Some of mine were lost/stolen (by a video store, ironically). If I still had Earthworm Jim, I'd just send it to you when I dug it out. I do have a bunch of NES and Genesis games though. Not sure why I culled my SNES collection though.

I see. That's very interesting, Mark. I don't have much time on my hands to do some serious gaming now, of course, but I do try to sneak a few breaks in where I pop in an old cartridge and rock it 16 bit style. I have Super Godzilla too, btw. I used to enjoy it but then it became tedious!!lol I liked King of the Monsters better, which is actually another game I'd like to own in cart form.

I'm also a fan of the NES. I still have my old system, slightly discolored but still a very clean and functional deck.

I think I have around 40 SNES games right now.
And Mark, if you ever do find that Earthworm game, I'd buy it from you or at least pay the shipping bud! Thanks for the thought.

Incredibly weird that you posted this today Mark. Just last night, I've decided on a "Supaboy" for my birthday. emoticon

http://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-SUPABOY-Portable-Console-Super-NES/dp/B005GSRPG8/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1345599840&sr=1-1&keywords=supaboy

I did look at the Retrobit system but I wasn't really digging how the NES cart stood out way over the system's top. And I'm really only interested in playing my collection of SNES carts I own.
We'll see how well it works. Seems like there's a couple versions flying around. The first version and a newly released version which eliminated high pitch noise and some other problem. The Supaboy is an attractive little system. I like how it resembles a real U.S. SNES controller.

Hyperkin does have a better reputation with these retro units. I just came across that other thing by accident today, thought it'd be funny considering your talk of the expensive SNES games (did you see that first "buy together" thing? Super Mario World and something else, with the system for 1300 bucks?! It's really disgusting, because it's just people trying to bilk other people who sometimes get a touch of nostalgia (ironically, it's because the systems were better built, less parts to go screwy, so many of those old systems still work fine).

I got a little Sega Saturn crazy at the beginning of the year, and while some games can be fairly easily and cheaply found, there are the bilkers out there. What good is trying to get 800 dollars for a game when nobody is ever going to buy it?

Yep. I was on ebay and saw Street Fighter 2 Turbo for 90.00 dollars or best offer. I submitted an offer for the heck of it, of only 9 dollars. The seller then sent me a counter offer for 14.00 dollars. lol...okay.

And on Amazon, as I was looking at the hand held clones, I came across and 8000.00 dollar -plus, Secret of Mana snes game. 8 thousand dollars!? I have that rom. It is not worth 8k lol.
But yeah.. the thing is, its been 20 something years since SNES came and it's definitely become a popular thing purely out of nostalgia.

A few days ago, i played Donkey Kong Country 2 on my console and I got HOOKED. I couldn't stop until I finally beat the game. And I realized then, wow... these are still pretty effective in terms of delivering fun and challenge to the plate.

I can understand some games selling for 50.00 dollars. But 100.00 - up, it's a bit far out. Even N64 games are picking up in sales too. And the N64 wasn't really all that great.
I came very close to selling all my game consoles because I hardly ever get a chance to sit and play them. But now... I think I'll just hold on to them because I can see myself missing them once they're gone.

You might be better off getting a Wii. There are a bunch of SNES, N64, NES, TurboGrafx 16 and Sega games for under 10 bucks on the virtual console.

I think the "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" for PS3 is awesome (I love the Shining Force and Phantasy Star games, and all but the first Phantasy Star (as that was a Master System game) are on it, plus tons more. Nintendo needs to come out with something similar for the Wii.

I have a Wii but I never bought anything from their virtual store yet. I just got through reading through some random Nintendo collector forum and man...talk about being a mirror image of the sketch card community. A lot of snark, pessimistic critics chewing each others heads off over prices, reproduction labels and crying over their hobby is going down hill. I had to bail before it left a permanent sour taste in my mouth, figuratively speaking of course. emoticon

Brutal.

Well, I'm placing an order for that Supaboy tomorrow and should have it in my hands within 4 business days. I'll let you know what I think of it.
